How to Nail the Interview and Land the Job
Alright, so you just sent in an absolutely amazing resume and cover letter to the job of your dreams and they actually got back to you! But wait, that means you have to go in for an interview. Interviews can be extremely nerve-racking, especially if you consider yourself to be a shy person. You only get about 30 minutes, if you’re lucky, to show them what you’ve got and to prove to them that you are the best person for the job. Well if you really want to land the job then you’ve got to prepare extensively. Check out my tips and suggestions below.
Research
Before you go into your interview, make sure you have a thorough understanding of the company’s accomplishments and future goals. Take the time to comb through every inch of the company’s website. If you can talk to your interviewer with confidence about the company, you’re sure to impress him or her.
Dress to impress
You need to prove to your employers that you are a professional. Be conservative in both color and style. Black, gray or blue is a good color choice and you can never fail with a pressed, tailored suit. And don’t forget to polish your dress shoes, sneakers just won’t do.
Exude confidence
Never go into the interview incredibly nervous and self-conscious. Your interviewer will immediately spot your discomfort and think you’ve got something to hide. Or worse, you’ll end up rambling on about Kawasaki motorcycle parts or something completely unrelated to the job. Walk into your interview with confidence and give your interviewer a firm handshake while making eye contact.
Be prepared
Interviewers generally ask potential employees the same basic questions. So be well versed in how you will respond to questions such as: “Why did you leave your last job?” or “What are your future career goals?” When answering these common questions, make sure you respond with pithy, well thought out answers.
Follow these tips and you’re sure to nail the interview. Just relax, be professional and try your best to make a connection with your interviewer. Good luck!
