Check Your Resume
Before submitting your application to a prospective employer, check your resume for any mistakes or corrections at least three times before handing it over. You may even want to have someone else read through it to make sure you haven’t missed anything.
You will be judged on your application and resume, so it is critically important to make sure that it is neat, tidy and doesn’t have any spelling mistakes or other errors in it. Typographical and grammatical errors are serious no-no’s.
If your application or resume is addressed to a person at the company make sure you have spelled their name correctly. You may even want to ring up and ask for the correct spelling, if you have any doubts. Even though a prospective employer may be kind to you and say it doesn’t matter and ‘everyone’ gets the spelling of their name wrong – that’s not true. It does matter and you want your application and resume to stand out for the right reasons, not for the wrong ones!
After researching about the company and the job position, you should format your resume to match the needs of the company and the job you are interested in. For example, if you are applying for an accounting job, you should put in more details about your accounting experience and less information about previous sales jobs.
In other words, try to customise your application and resume to suit the particular position you are applying for by emphasising relevant information, if you can.
